Background-
Washington and his troops traveled to Charleston, which was were the British were staying. Washington and his troop climbed up a large hill. All they could see is fog from looking down. The reason why Washington did that was because the British were still sleeping, so when they woke up by the time the fog would be gone. Washington just knew he was going to win because he got the top of the hill. Also because the British had way less people than America. This hill that the men fought on was really Breed's Hill not Bunker's Hill.
Information-
On March 1776 Washington arrived and command the block of the British. Washington needed to get rid of the British so he set out cannons to try to get the British away. So Washington used the cannons to fire on the British a hill overlooking southern Boston. The British were so surprised that Washington did such a thing. The British were also in trouble. The redcoats tried to steel the hill from America.
"The rebels have done more in one night than my whole army could do in months." -William Howe
The British colonists soon ran out of gun powder and they had to give up. The British suffered more than 1,000 men. Compared to Washington only lost about 400 men because they ere on top of the hill. The Americans repelled the first two attacks by the British, but were forced to retreat from the third attack when they ran out of gun powder. The battle was a costly victory for the British who lost more that 40% of their force. Even though the Americans were defeated, it proved that the British could suffer great losses, too, giving encouragement to the growing of British rule.
Geography-
The Battle of Bunker Hill took place on a hill. the colonists were well protected because the British soldiers could not shoot at them like they could on the ground. If the British soldiers tried to shoot at the colonists the bullets wouldn't land most of the time. The colonists also had large brass cannons which were pointed towards the Redcoats.
